OSU Meal Plan Policy
Signing Up for a Meal Plan
- All freshmen living on campus are required to have a meal plan at the bronze level or above.
- Students (other than freshmen) living on campus are not required to have a meal plan, but can choose to for convenience.
- Meal plans are NOT required during summer sessions, however, special plans are available at a reduced rate for those students wishing to purchase them.
- Students living on campus may sign up for a meal plan online when registering for housing by going to Housing and Residential Life’s website (http://www.reslife.okstate.edu/).
- You do not have to live on campus to have a meal plan. Any student can have a meal plan. If the student will not be living on campus, he/she can sign up by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the student’s name, CWID and meal plan choice (if choosing Plan G, please list the amount you wish to start with in increments of $100).
- Contract meal plans are billed to your bursar account at the beginning of each semester. Cash, check, bursar charge or debit/credit cards can pay for G plans. This can be done in person at 301 Student Union, or if paying with a debit/credit card, you may call the meal plan office at (405) 744-4920.
- You may add funds to a G plan or contract meal plan by calling the meal plan office at (405) 744-4920 to pay with debit/credit card, by email to pay by bursar charge or in person at 301 Student Union to pay with debit/credit card, bursar charge, cash or check.
Using Your Meal Plan
- Meal plans are automatically loaded and activated on your student ID and can be swiped at any dining outlet on campus. The meal plan works just like a debit card. The full amount of your plan for the semester is loaded one week prior to the start of classes and your balance declines as you make purchases.
- University Dining Services has 30 unique dining locations for you to choose from so you never get in a rut. You can also use your meal plan at Planet Orange, Taylor's Dining, Rancher's Club and game day concessions.
- Meal plan funds are not restricted to food and beverage purchases. You can purchase household items such as laundry soap and toilet paper; personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner; and school supplies such as notebooks and folders at Twenty Something in Kerr-Drummond dining.
- Twenty Something, our largest convenience store, allows students who wish to cook their own meals the ability to shop and purchase the same items that they would find at traditional retail outlets without ever leaving campus.
Add to/Change Your Meal Plan
- A student may change, but not cancel, their contracted meal plan for the semester with no penalty, once within the first week of classes following the listed date requirements below. After the first week of classes, all other qualified meal plan changes will incur a $50 fee for the change.
- All qualified contract terminations, including qualified students choosing to switch from a contract plan to the “G” (non-contract) plan, are charged a $150 buyout fee plus a prorated amount when the plan has been under-utilized.
- If students run out of money on a meal plan, additional funds may be added at any time by cash, check, bursar charge or debit/credit card in person at 301 Student Union or by phone at (405) 744-4920. If paying by bursar charge only, money may be added by sending an email to email@example.com.
- If selecting the non-contract Plan G and you do not specify a dollar amount, your request will be defaulted to $100. The minimum dollar amount you can put on a non-contracted Plan G is $100 and any additional funds may only be added in $100 increments.
- All cancellations or changes to meal plans need to be sent in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the student’s name, CWID and the desired change.
Meal Plan Balances and Rollover
- Meal plan balances may be checked here by signing into your O-Key account. This balance is updated nightly. Meal plan balances are also printed at the bottom of your receipt at our dining concepts.
- Each contracted meal plan has a maximum rollover amount – an amount that will carry over from semester to semester as long as an active meal plan contract is in place for the following semester. If no meal plan contract will be active the following semester (as with students not returning), the full balance should be spent down before the end of the semester as there will be no rollover. Rollover amounts are added onto the next semester's meal plan balance approximately one week after the registrar's drop/add deadline. See the Meal Plan Contract Terms of Agreement for specifics.
- If you have a high balance remaining on your meal plan toward the end of the semester, you can purchase household items such as laundry soap and toilet paper; personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner; and school supplies such as notebooks and folders at Twenty Something in Kerr-Drummond dining.
- The complete balance of funds on a Plan G remains in place from semester to semester and are not subject to rollover guidelines or restrictions.
- The meal plan is active one week before classes begin.
- Students or parents (if there is a signed FERPA on file) can get a detailed spending report from the meal plan office. Send requests to email@example.com.
- If you see “SVC Plan: 3” on your receipt, it means you are charging items to your Bursar account. This is not a meal plan. The “balance” at the bottom of the receipt is not necessarily reflective of your current Bursar balance, but rather indicates your food and drink spending since the last data pull by IT. Unlike the balance present at the bottom of a receipt with a meal plan, the SVC Plan: 3 balance is not indicative of a remaining amount of money to be spent on dining.
Student ID Cards
- Meal plans are non-transferable. Meal plan holders may not loan their OSU student ID to others. Unauthorized use may result in confiscation and/or disciplinary action.
- Any lost or stolen ID card should be reported to ID Services at 421 Classroom Building or (405) 744-8434. They will be able to verify if the card has been turned in and the location where it can be retrieved. A lost ID card may only be retrieved by the card owner upon presenting another picture ID. If your ID has not been turned in, ID Services can, upon request, temporarily deactivate your card, or, you can have a new ID card created immediately, which will deactivate the missing card.
- Alternatively, you may lock your ID card by logging into your account at okey.okstate.edu. Click "Identification Card" in the menu on the left. The system will ask, "Do you want to lock your ID card?" Click "Lock" and your ID will be deactivated. If you located your card, you can log back into your O-key account and unlock your ID card. This immediately reactivates your card. If you do not locate your card and decide to have a new card made, you will need to log back into your O-key account and unlock your ID card for the new card to become active.
- You should also contact the OSU Police Department to report the loss or theft of the card by calling the Found Property Clerk of the OSU PD at (405) 744-6527.
- University Dining Services is not responsible for lost or stolen cards, or any meal plan expenditures made between the time the card is lost or stolen and the time it is reported missing to ID Services and campus police.
- If a student has joined a fraternity or sorority and will be moving into Greek housing at the beginning of the academic year, they may cancel their meal plan before the first day of class. After the first week of class at 5:00 p.m., there is a penalty.
- If a student has joined a fraternity or sorority and will be moving into Greek housing at the beginning of the spring semester, they may cancel their meal plan but will be charged a $150 buyout fee. After the first week of class, there is a buyout fee plus a prorated amount when the plan has been under-utilized.
- Meal plan and University Dining Services administration staff cannot speak to parents about their student's meal plan unless they have a Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) form on file. This form can be completed at the registrar's office. For more information, go to https://registrar.okstate.edu/FERPA.
- Once the FERPA release is on file, parents may contact the meal plan office with questions about meal plans, check the balance on a meal plan, add money or request a detailed spending report. - All dining options on campus are retail-based. This means that your student only pays for what they choose. Students are not limited to a certain number of meals or a certain amount of food at each meal.
